Bill Gates pledges $10B for vaccines for developing countries

According to the USA Today (January 29, 2010), Bill and Melinda Gates announced today a $10 billion pledge by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for vaccine research for developing countries. Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, announced the pledge to reporters at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He said that boosting immunization coverage in developing countries to 90% should prevent the deaths of 7.6 million children under the age of 5 between 2010 and 2019. Gates said the latest pledge by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation more than doubles the $4.5 billion the foundation has given to vaccine research in the past five years."
