National Infant Immunization Week April 24-May 1, 2010
A News & Events entry posted on April 26, 2010
During National Infant Immunization Week, parents are reminded about the importance of getting their babies fully immunized by age two years.
According to the CDC, although ’vaccines have reduced or eliminated many infectious diseases that once routinely killed or harmed thousands of infants and young children each year,’ the ’viruses and bacteria that cause vaccine-preventable disease and death still exist and can be passed on to people who are not immunized.’
As part of NIIW, CDC is offering two videos: "Welcome to Parenthood" and "Get the Picture: Childhood Immunizations." One video encourages parents to get the facts about vaccinations and the diseases they prevent, and the second features CDC’s Dr. Jeanne Santoli answering parents’ questions about vaccines.
